The Santa Cruz County Justice Project (SCCJP) is building a community-powered legal support network—and we need you.
Whether you have a few hours to spare or are ready to dive deeper into advocacy, we offer two meaningful volunteer pathways to help expand access to justice across our region.
General Volunteers
Time Commitment: Flexible, short-term or occasional
Role: Support individuals seeking legal assistance by helping with form completions, translations, and other administrative tasks.
Ideal For: Community members who want to lend a hand, build relationships, and make a direct impact—no legal training required.
Community Justice Workers (Community Legal Advocates)
Time Commitment: Moderate to long-term, with training provided
Role: Help build trusted, local legal support across Santa Cruz County. Volunteers receive free training through our Community Legal Education (CLE) Programs, in partnership with Innovation for Justice and the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law, focused on domestic violence and housing instability.
What You’ll Gain:
Skills to provide free legal help in your community
Self-guided online courses with flexible pacing
Real-time support and ongoing mentorship from licensed attorneys
State certification as a community-based legal advocate
Ideal For: Individuals passionate about justice, equity, and community care who want to grow as trusted advocates and leaders.
